ABOUT LIBRARY:

Hooghly Women’s College, established in 1949 is the first woman undergraduate college in Hooghly district. This college is affiliated to the University of Burdwan.

The college library is an open access library with collection of approximately 31320 books including text and reference books and facilitates to access 19 magazines and 10 Journals related to different subjects and daily Newspaper also. Books are classified by using DDC 23^rd edition classification schedule and catalogued by using AACR2R cataloguing schedule. The central Library is fully automated by using KOHA, library automation software, is in use for creating the library database. Web based Online Public access catalogue (Web OPAC) enables library users to search books online and to know their checkout status, issue history.

In addition to the Central Library, every department has a Seminar Library. This seminar library has been built up with the aim of providing easy access of books. Seminar libraries are being totally controlled by the department concerned.

The library is spacious (about 335 sq. mts.), well light, and well-ventilated. Its location allows for easy access and offers a seating capacity for 40 users at a time.

LIBRARY RULES:

* Students, teachers as well as staffs should keep their bag inside the cage meant for the purpose before entering the library room.

* No Bags/Folders/Newspapers/Personal or Issued books will be allowed inside the library.

* Loud conversation is not allowed inside the library.

* Do not bring food and beverages inside the library.

* Keep your cell phone in silent or off mode inside the library.

* It is advisable to use library resources i.e. books, computers & magazines carefully.

* Circulation is done from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

* Books are issued for 15 days, after the due date a fine of Re 1.00/- is applicable for each book on per day basis.

* In case of lost/ damaged book user has to replace the book (same edition or higher). Else they have to pay ten times of the actual cost of the book.

* Your cooperation with library staff is highly appreciated.

CIRCULATION RULES:

1. Students can issue 2 Books for 15 Days.

2. Faculty Members can issue 15 Books for 1 year.

3. SACT can issue 15 Books for 1 year.

4. Staff can issue 05 Books for 1 year.

5. Renewal can be done twice.

6. Fine of Re 1/- is applicable on Per Book per Day basis if it's not return/renew after the due date.

LIBRARY COLLECTION:

The Library is rich in collection of materials including text and reference books. Library is enriched with extensive holdings in Bengali, History, Sanskrit, Philosophy, Education, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Microbiology among many other subjects. As per accession register Central Library has 31320 books including text and reference (as of 20.07.2023) and subscribes 19 magazines and 10 journals related to different subjects and regularly subscribes leading daily newspapers.Library has an e-zone to access internet for the students and faculty members.

LIBRARY SERVICES:

• The College library has subscribed to various journals related to different subjects (Resonance, Current Science, EPW, Yojona, Kuruskhetra). 

• Books & Magazines are purchased by the college on regular basics for knowledge up gradation.  The College regularly subscribes leading daily newspapers.

• Newspapers & internet are used to keep track of the latest advancement in a particular field.  Special help is rendered to students preparing for competitions.

• Old question papers of final examinations in all the subjects are made available to the students. 

• Copies of syllabi prescribed by the University of Burdwan are also available to students for ready reference.

• Photocopy facility is available at the Library.

• The library staffs keeps the faculty and the students updated regarding its latest acquisitions. 

• Almost all departments have Departmental Libraries for the benefit of faculty and students.

• Issuing library cards to the students and library is fully automated using KOHA Integrated Library Management Software.

• WebOPAC facility is available from anywhere. 

• Library provides reference services to readers by maintaining a separate reference sections; encyclopedia and dictionaries are easily available in the library. 

• Through reference section library provides books related to various competitive examinations like SSC, PSC, and UPSC etc. 

• Library answers every query of readers.

• Central Computer facility with internet connections.

• Free accessibility to full-text e-journals and e-books through INFLIBNET and N-List.
